Dave and I were workamping at Clear Springs Campground in Texarkana, Texas when the term RVing Nomads was created. It wasn’t even us who thought of it! As camp hosts we were riding around in the golf cart, checking our attendance list when we stopped to talk with a group of campers. We asked about their camping experiences and adventures. And they asked about our traveling experiences and adventures. After a jovial conversation filled with laughter and stories from both sides, one of the campers asked us, “What are you? RVing Nomads?” The name stuck with us.
How we became RVing Nomads
I can tell you the day Dave and I became RVing Nomads.
It wasn’t the last day in August 2018 when we sold our house and began full-time rving in our motorhome. No, we were RVing Nomads long before that.
We didn’t become RVing Nomads when we bought our first RV, a 5th wheel.
We didn’t become RVing Nomads when we bought our first Jeep. We fantasized that if we were going to buy a motorhome and travel the country we would need a Jeep to tow. So we bought the Jeep in anticipation of towing it behind the motorhome we dreamed of buying. No, we were RVing Nomads long before we bought the Jeep.
We didn’t even have an RV on the day we became RVing Nomads!! But both of us remember the minute it happened. It was on a snowy, blustery winter weekend in Maine. Twenty-eight inches of snow had fallen over the course of two days. When Dave and I finally finished clearing the driveway of snow for the 8th time, we leaned on our snow shovels and said, “This is it. We are never doing this again. There must be more to life than this!”
The minute the dream of an rving lifestyle begins is when you become RVing Nomads.
Why RVingNomads.com?
Once someone finds out we live full-time in our motorhome, their curiosity is triggered!! “You sold your house?” “How do you find towing your Jeep?” “What is your favorite place you have visited?” “Is it hard to drive?” Maybe they aren’t interested in full-timing, but they start dreaming. In coming RVing Nomads blogs and articles we will share how we became full-timers, emotionally, physically and financially.
Dave and I spent almost 3 years researching the right RV, and we still ended up trading our “perfect” RV after a year. We didn’t understand the importance of function and floor plan. For example, I loved the floor plan of our 5th wheel, but I couldn’t reach half of the shelves in the cabinets!! In coming RVing Nomads blogs and articles we will share some of the features to think about in purchasing your RV.
As full-timers we have been curious, too. Some of the most exciting parts of living full-time have been the people we have met, the things we have seen, the places we have been, the foods we have eaten and the campgrounds we have stayed in. In our RVing Nomads website section on “Excellence”, we will share what we think are some of the best places in the country to visit, eat at or stay at.
